Victron EasySolar 24/1600/40

Comprehensive solution for off-grid or hybrid solar systems. It can connect to solar panels with a power of up to 1400 Wp, batteries, a generator, or the grid, powering professional single-phase hybrid/off-grid systems.

EasySolar helps achieve higher energy independence from the grid. It combines an inverter/charger, solar MPPT controller, and distribution of AC power, including protection, into one compact device. Easy to install, space-efficient, and minimizes required wiring. It sophisticatedly and automatically prioritizes the use of generated solar energy, minimizing grid consumption. Designed to power single-phase appliances at AC 230 V.

Application Area
Comprehensive multifunctional solution for family homes, recreational properties, cottages, etc. The system increases energy independence by using self-generated electricity and powers appliances even during standard grid outages.

Comprehensive Description
EasySolar acts as a central unit. It connects directly to photovoltaic panels - the solar energy source, a battery for energy storage, a grid connection as a backup source, and appliances. All of this is done without the need to open or assemble anything. Its operation and overall functioning are controlled by internal sophisticated logic.

It is a compact two-in-one device combining an inverter/charger (MultiPlus) and a solar MPPT controller. The inverter/charger draws energy directly from the solar system and/or energy stored in the battery, converts it into AC, and powers connected 230 V AC appliances. In essential cases (see below), it also uses energy from the grid (or another source, such as a generator). The solar MPPT controller maximizes the amount of energy produced by photovoltaic panels, transfers energy to the inverter/charger for appliance power, and stores excess energy in the battery for future use during periods of insufficient solar energy (e.g., at night).

Example of a comprehensive setup:

Basic Operation of EasySolar
EasySolar generates electrical energy from the sun, uses it directly to power standard 230V appliances, or, in case of excess, stores it in the battery for later use. In necessary cases, it can use energy from the grid, to which it is functionally independent. It prioritizes the use of self-generated solar energy over grid energy. Energy consumption from the grid is minimized to the essential amount, only in the following cases:

  • The battery is completely depleted. The inverter takes the minimum necessary amount to partially recharge the battery to a critical safe level. This is a protective measure against deep and prolonged discharge, which extends the battery's lifespan.
  • Every 28 days (factory default setting), a protective recharge of the battery to full capacity is performed, extending the battery's lifespan.
  • There is an inverter overload. The load (appliance consumption) is currently higher than what the inverter can supply from solar energy and/or the battery. In this situation, EasySolar utilizes energy from the grid. It preferentially draws its energy from the solar system and/or the battery, taking only the essential amount of energy from the grid. Once the appliance consumption drops below a certain threshold (typically around 1300 W), grid energy consumption is stopped.

With or Without Energy Deliveries to the Grid
If the grid is available, EasySolar can, according to settings, deliver or, conversely, not deliver excess energy back to the distribution grid.

Sophisticated Software
There are multiple versions of software available for the integrated inverter/charger, which can be used for various purposes and settings. The manufacturer typically uses the 100 series software, where EasySolar functions as a simple UPS - if the grid is available, it uses it to the fullest extent and does not prioritize generated solar energy. For the sophisticated functionality described above, maximizing the use of solar energy and minimizing grid consumption, EasySolar is equipped with a special version of the 300 series software with HUB-1 functionality.

Integration of EasySolar
Standard homes have a three-phase connection. Individual phases are connected to the main distribution panel, and selected single-phase appliances or circuits are connected to each phase. EasySolar is easily inserted into one chosen phase before entering the main distribution panel. In the main distribution panel, selected appliances connected to the backup circuit are connected, prioritizing appliances that should be powered by solar energy. After increasing the power capacity, multiple EasySolar units can be arranged in parallel. The device is designed as single-phase, but it can be configured to create a three-phase system if needed.

Performance Characteristics and Features
EasySolar can power appliances exclusively from the solar system and/or battery without the need to use the grid up to a cumulative consumption of approximately 1300 W. It is recommended to connect appliances that collectively consume a maximum of 1300 W and only exceptionally and temporarily more. If the appliance consumption exceeds 1300 W and the grid is simultaneously available, EasySolar begins using grid energy to prevent overload. In this state, it tries to maximize energy intake from the battery and minimize the current necessary energy from the grid. Grid connection is smooth without interrupting appliance power. When overload subsides, the grid is automatically disconnected, and energy is taken again only from the battery. Disconnection from the grid is smooth without interrupting appliance power. This is a unique Grid Assist feature. If there is no grid available during higher consumption than 1300 W, non-destructive overload of the EasySolar inverter may occur with interruption of appliance power. In overload conditions, EasySolar attempts to automatically restore appliance power. If overload persists, the EasySolar inverter transitions into a permanent fault state (battery charging by the solar system still operates independently of the inverter). To restore standard operation, a simple manual power off and on from the EasySolar front panel is performed.

Easy Connection
The entire device is installation-friendly with a plug-and-play approach. A significant advantage of EasySolar is the internal cable connection between the inverter/charger and solar MPPT controller to a shared battery in combination with protection. This simplifies and accelerates the installation process. All main connections are made in the lower part of EasySolar without the need to open it:

Advantages of the DC System
EasySolar cannot functionally combine with standard grid power plants equipped with grid inverters. EasySolar has the advantage that the entire battery charging process occurs in direct current (DC) voltage (PV panels - MPPT solar controller - battery). At the same time, EasySolar uses the freshly generated solar energy for the direct powering of connected appliances by converting it from direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) form. The energy produced is directly utilized by appliances without the need to first store it in the battery. This further reduces energy losses and battery wear. Unlike other systems with grid inverters, there are no unnecessary losses in energy conversion to alternating form and back to direct current (battery). This way, the system does not unnecessarily lose energy through transformation.
