MultiPlus-II is a powerful DC-AC hybrid inverter/charger with pure sine wave output, integrated adaptive battery charger and ultra-fast transfer switch for power source - battery/source (external AC).
MultiPlus-II combines the functions of MultiPlus and MultiGrid
It has all the functions of the MultiPlus unit and additionally with the possibility of connecting an external current sensor for PowerControl and PowerAssist functions with self-consumption optimization.
It also has all the functions of the MultiGrid unit with built-in anti-islanding protection on its AC input – enhanced protection to prevent unwanted supply to the distribution grid in case of its failure.
ESS (Energy Storage System): Energy storage systems
MultiPlus-II is a key element in the Victron ESS system, which provides flexibility for combination with solar MPPT controllers or with grid PV inverters.
One AC input
MultiPlus-II is equipped with one AC input for connecting the distribution grid or e.g. a generator. If two AC inputs are needed, then we choose the Quattro unit.
Two AC outputs
MultiPlus-II is equipped with two AC outputs. The main AC1 output ensures uninterrupted power supply. E.g. in UPS mode, MultiPlus-II takes over the power supply of connected appliances (in less than 20 ms) in case of distribution grid or generator failure.
The second AC output is functional only when AC input is available (distribution grid/generator). Load that would quickly discharge the batteries, such as a water heater, can therefore be connected to this output and will be powered only from the AC source.
Four-stage charging with adaptive charger with two outputs for battery charging
The main DC output provides powerful full battery charging through an "adaptive charging" system. The software controls a three-stage automatic charging process to suit the battery condition, and adds a fourth charging stage - maintenance charging. MultiPlus-II is designed for charging all types of lead-acid, alkaline and lithium batteries.
Three-phase operation
Three units of the same type can be configured for three-phase operation with phase shift.
Unique features of PowerControl and PowerAssist functions
MultiPlus-II prevents overloading of power-limited AC source e.g. current-limited electrical connection or generator. If large consumption would cause overloading of the input AC source, the charging current to the battery will be automatically reduced in the first step (PowerControl). Energy for charging is transferred to power AC appliances. In the second step, the input AC source is reinforced with current drawn from the battery (PowerAssist). Energy from both AC source and battery (inverter) comes to the AC output together.
Solar energy
AC current can be available even in case of distribution grid failure. MultiPlus-II can be used both in off-grid (island) systems and in photovoltaic systems permanently connected to the distribution grid. MultiPlus-II is not equipped with an input for PV array, but is designed to work with MPPT controllers (DC coupling systems) or grid inverters (AC coupling systems) located on AC input and/or AC output. More here in ESS description.
System configuration
- In case of simple e.g. UPS installation, settings can be easily made in a few minutes using DIP switches on MultiPlus-II or VE.Configure 3 software and PC.
- Three-phase applications can be configured using VE.Bus Quick Configure software (up to three units) or more complex systems using VE.Bus System Configurator software (over three units) and PC.
- Off-grid and hybrid PV installations for self-consumption support and greater energy independence, which include grid inverters and/or solar MPPT chargers, can be configured using VE.Configure 3 software using appropriate assistants (specialized functions for specific applications).
- MultiPlus-II has several programmable relays and auxiliary contacts for a wide range of additional functions.
- Basic VE.Configure 3 software, as well as other configuration software can be downloaded for free at www.victronenergy.com/support-and-downloads/software.
- For the mentioned software you will need MK3-USB PC communication interface.
Remote monitoring and system configuration
Monitor and control your system locally or remotely via internet from anywhere in the world using free VRM app and free VRM portal: https://vrm.victronenergy.com/landingpage
Access can be from phone, tablet, laptop or computer (various operating systems). For remote access you need one of the following control panels and then you have the possibility of monitoring and configuring the system from anywhere in the world: Color Control GX, Venus GX, Cerbo GX
In combination with Cerbo GX, ColorControl GX or Venus GX provides battery state of charge counting in percentages (SOC).
MultiPlus-II offers many operating variants and is able to offer solutions for a range of user requirements.
